We are strong proponents of green cleaning. Baking soda and vinegar can replace many harsh household cleaners you find at the grocery store, and there are endless DIY alternative using natural antibacterials like lavender, lemon, and thyme. This Lavender All-Purpose Cleaner packs the excellent cleaning and deodorizing power of vinegar as well as the fragrant and antibacterial and antiviral cleaning powers of lavender.
Together they create a household cleaner that can be sprayed directly on all surfaces in your home. Keep countertops, toilets, light switches, walls, floors, and sinks clean and shiny.
Step 1: Choose Your Ingredients
Lavender is abundant in Seattle, but thyme and lemon would be also make a great combination. You can pick all these fresh from your garden; thyme and rosemary can be bought in sprigs from the grocery store, and lavender can be bought at farmer's markets or ordered online.
Step 2: Measure Out Herbs
Pour in 1-2 cups of lavender into your empty mason jar. Add a few sprigs of rosemary.
Step 3: Add Vinegar
Pour three cups of white vinegar over rosemary and lavender and seal the jar.
Step 4: Let it Set
Set aside in a cool, dark place, like under your sink or in a kitchen cabinet, for at least two weeks. Strain the lavender and vinegar through a colander or cheesecloth to remove bits of lavender. Pour back into the mason jar and cap tightly.
Step 5: Use Your Cleaner
To use, fill a spray bottle half full with infused vinegar, then fill the remaining half with water. Use as you would any spray cleaner: Spray on and wipe clean.
As with our Jalapeño Lime infused honey, you can make hundreds of variations on the infused vinegar: Lemon Thyme, Orange Cinnamon, or Peppermint, just to name a few. These naturally-infused vinegar sprays are non-toxic, effective, and economical!
